Transmission guard
Transmission guard
Because the Rover is a long wheelbase model, I am concerned about getting high-centred under certain conditions and if that happens, there is a risk that the transfer case could get damaged.
So I fitted a transmission guard made by Extreme 4X4 in the UK. They have no US distribution so I had it shipped over (at huge expense I might add).
The guard attaches to 2 cross members; the front one (upper left) bolts to the brackets that hold the front cross-member and the rear (upper right) bolts to the frame rails using threaded rods and hanger plates (lower right). Getting the rear one in the correct position required breaking off the plastic clips that hold the fuel lines in place on one side and part of the wiring harness on the other. Getting the front one to mount properly required extra holes drilled to take the front cross member bolts.
The plate mounts to these two cross members (lower left).
